Surviving Means Having Access To Food And Water

Any living creature requires access to the basics of a food supply to eat, and water to be able to drink.

In the event these two issues have become hindered in some fashion, the chances of long-term survival drop dramatically for each day that you are without these resources.

Before modern warfare tactics, during the Middle Ages, castles were often "under siege" when an invading army cut off the castle's food and water access.

This often led to increased panic, increased risks, surrender, or death on the part of those defending the castle.

We must have clean water and some form of edible food that has little or nothing to do with our specific eating habits.

Survival will not care if you are a vegan, and it won't care if you are being picky, or you don't drink plain water.

When push comes to shove, as those who have faced life and death survival will tell you, you'll eat things that will make " A billy goat puke".

Luckily, those are likely to be your absolute last resort and that will all depend on your skills, your knowledge, and your abilities.

Finding clean water during a survival situation should be a high priority.

Never Take Risk With Your Water Supply

Water is the key to survival. It is essential for human life and it makes up about 60% of a person's body weight.

Every day, a person needs to drink about two liters of water to stay hydrated. Water helps regulate the body's temperature and lubricates joints.

Water also helps remove waste from the body through urination and sweating.

When you don't have enough water, you can become dehydrated, leading to health problems such as heat stroke, seizures, or even death.

That's why it's so important to make sure you're drinking enough water every day!

Dirty or contaminated water can sometimes be worse then having no water, always purify water if you can.

Buying Food may not always be an option.

Gardening, Foraging, Buying, and Hunting For Food

There are only a few basic methods for you to acquire food, depending on such factors as exactly how hungry you are, your desperation level, and access to things such as open lands to hunt, water supplies, and skills such as your knowledge of edible plants, you will have to begin making choices right away.

Foraging Food

Foraging for food will require a specific set of knowledge as to exactly what foods can be readily eaten wild, such as wild berries, mushrooms, and plants like the common Dandelion.

You will have to learn to identify these plants because when you see a berry in a bush or a fruit in a tree it does not automatically mean that you are going to be able to eat them safely.

The Manchineel tree is a tree whose fruit may resemble that of an apple tree, but its fruits and leaves produce a deadly toxin that can cause great suffering.

While most fruit trees are edible, it still is best to keep to ones you know for sure, such as ones you already eat.

Growing Food

Growing your food supply has been a cornerstone of preparedness, or survival, for hundreds of generations of our predecessors.

In fact, before modern large-scale farming techniques, having the ability to grow your food items, such as tomatoes, corn, cabbage, fruits, and other vegetables, was done in pretty much every household.

Any long-time prepper has likely been researching exactly which types of foods they like, which ones store well, and which ones they can easily grow within their climate zones.

This is the hallmark of a long-term survival plan.

Hunting Food

Hunting for food is a decent option for those who have hunting skills, access to trapping techniques, a bow and arrow, or a gun.

Hunting large games, depending on your situation, may be out of season, but many small game animals and some states have open seasons on "invasive" or rodent species.

These are not always the best eating meats, but eating a squirrel is still better than starving.

Buying Food

Buying food supplies can be a great method for getting started in the lifelong process of being prepared for the eventual disaster.

In many cases, buying long-shelf-life food is the preferred method for most survivalists.

This is because a quality survival food product has been tested for taste and quality, pre-portioned to provide the exactly needed calorie counts per person, is neatly arranged in an easily accessible form, and packaged for a shelf life of up to 25 years,

If you've been without food for any extended period, you will get hungrier, and with that increased hunger comes increased desperation.
