THERE IS NO SURVIVAL WITHOUT AIR

In order to survive, humans need air. Without it, humans cannot live for more than a few minutes.

The human body needs oxygen to function and when there is not enough oxygen in the blood, the body starts to shut down. This is why it is so important for people to have access to clean air and why pollution can be so harmful.

Survival situations, such as fires, drowning, or poisonous gases only take a moment or two to know a person unconscious.

The best options for situations such as these are respiration masks, and portable oxygen tanks.

The more you learn and practice, the better you hone your skills and the less you will need to practice the basic skills you already know, this will free up your time and brain power so that you can learn and grow newer skills.

YOU MAY ONLY HAVE ABOUT 2 MINUTES TO SURVIVE DURING A LOSS OF AIR EVENT.

Fire and carbon monoxide poisoning are among the leading causes of accidental death in the United States.

Each year, thousands of people die in fires and from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Most fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths could be prevented by taking simple safety precautions.

If you are caught in a fire:

• Stay calm and think about what you need to do to stay safe.

• Get out of the building as quickly as possible. Do not try to save possessions.

• If there is smoke, get down on your hands and knees so that the smoke will not fill your lungs as you escape.

• Once outside, go to a place where there is still air—a clear space away from the building—and call for help.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause sudden illness or death if inhaled.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, chest pain, and loss of consciousness.

If someone near you shows any signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, get them into fresh air right away and call 911.
